Accessibility
The City of Ava is making AvaBot usable for people with disabilities. We follow the federal ADA Title II web rule: WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Ava’s population is under 50,000, so that rule’s compliance date for the city is April 26, 2028. We are working to that standard now.
If you cannot use this site
Call City Hall and we will help by phone, in person, or another format that works for you.

What we built for
- Keyboard access to chat, menus, and forms
- Visible labels on the question box (not placeholder-only)
- Screen-reader announcements when AvaBot is looking something up and when a reply arrives
- Skip link to jump past the header
- The CivicPlus “Ask AvaBot” button names itself, closes with Escape, and returns focus when the panel closes
- AvaBot states that it is a computer assistant, not a person
Known limits
- The park map is visual. The same places are listed in text under the map — that list is the accessible version.
- The zoning map is a third-party diamondMaps window. Open the full-screen map link, or ask AvaBot in text.
- Some CivicPlus pages on avamissouri.org are outside the city’s AvaBot files. Ask City Hall if a city-website page is unusable.
Feedback
Tell City Hall what did not work (page, browser, and assistive technology if you use one). This page is a city statement of effort — not a claim that every pixel has been certified by a third-party auditor.
